About Me

My name is Valeen and I am a typical college gradwith no job :/ i graduated last june with a journalism degree and have been sitting home ever since. the job market sucks right now especially for journalists.. so i’ve decided to just blog for the time being. My style is very simple, down to earth and easy. I love the simple things in life; nature, love, science, art, etc. Β besides writing i also love to draw and take photos.

Journalism sounds like an awesome job to go into. But if the job market isn’t good right now….. hmph.

Hi thanks for stopping by my blog. When I graduated with a journalism degree there weren’t any jobs then, either. I went into marketing and business development for architects and engineers. Check out SMPS, Society for Marketing Professional Services. It’s a good gig, and you get to use all of your skills.

    Valeen –
How big is the journalism field? There are so many directions to choose from. Have you decided yet what area of journalism you want to pursue? Have you decided if you are willing to relocate?
Just a few questions to consider in you job search if you haven’t already. I wish you the best in you endeavors. And thanks for visiting my blog. I pray you find some encouragement and maybe a little inspiration to follow your dreams.

Thank you very much for your interest. I have checked many options but its just difficult because it is a very competitive field. I’ve even tried interning and freelancing options but even that is still a process to get into. I am still keeping my head up tho and I am thinking about going back to school as well.. Maybe that might help. As far as relocating, it was a thought but I’m not too sure on that just yet but it still remains an option. Thanks again for your kind words and sincere thoughts. It truly does help a lot and keeps me motivated πŸ™‚

I can identify with the journo stuff as I too have a journo degree. I did an internship at a nearby paper 4 years ago and built a rapport with the editor. to this day she still ALWAYS publishes my work, heres the link to some of it, which in turn allows me to have a good body of work to present, also it keeps the writing muscle exercised http://jennhammerphotography.wordpress.com/published-stuff-words-images/
